San Diegans Learn About Launch of CalAIM from Health Net Vice President, Medi-Cal Regional Lead

Date: 11/30/22

California's statewide CalAIM program works to make Californians more healthy. The goal is to transform and strengthen the Medi-Cal program. In doing so, vulnerable Californians can improve their health and life path.

Health Net launched CalAIM for our members in January 2022. Dr. Kathleen Lang, Vice President, Medi-Cal Regional Lead at Health Net, joined the San Diego Chamber of Commerce Health Committee in early November to talk about the impact of CalAIM in the area.

Dr. Lang shared our local network of doctors and other providers. She highlighted our ~88,000 members and almost 100 Health Net employees that live in San Diego County. She also shared our approach to launch CalAIM, based on our four main pillars:

  • Health Equity: We created structures and processes that support equity and recruited diverse providers so we meet the needs of our communities.
  • Local Engagement: We worked closely with local organizations to build a robust and responsive provider network.
  • Local Investments & Partnerships: We invested over $100 million in over 500 community-based organizations.
  • Trusted, Local Input: We stay informed by community input and knowledge of local needs.

From 2017 to 2020, we gave over $2.4 million in grants to 30 local organizations to support San Diegans. Our partnerships with county, city and community stakeholders help improve the health of county residents.

As California's Department of Health Care Services continues to implement CalAIM through 2027, Health Net will use our expertise and work to ensure its success.
