Health Net kicks off the 14th Annual Health Literacy Month Celebration on October 2nd
Date: 09/20/23
October is National Health Literacy Month!
See what Health Net is doing for you!
National Health Literacy Month is important to Health Net. It offers a month-long chance to connect with our doctors, staff, and members. Our goal is to help improve health equity through health literacy. We are doing this by using plain language principles such as:
- Using gender neutral language.
- Building our member’s digital literacy skills.
- Using people first language with persons with disabilities.
What is Health Equity?
Health equity means everyone has a fair chance to reach their best health. No one is kept from quality care because of who they are, where they live, or how much money they make. Health equity asks us to:
- Understand that each person has different needs.
- Provide resources to help people meet differing needs.
- Address current and historical injustices affecting health.
- Improve health literacy!
What is Health Literacy?
Health literacy is being able to find, understand, and use your health information to make decisions about your well-being. This means understanding things such as:
- What your health insurance covers.
- Where to go for your care.
- What your doctor is saying.
- Directions on how to take your prescription drugs.
