SACRAMENTO, Calif. – APRIL 29, 2022 - Health Net, one of California's longest serving and most experienced Medi-Cal partners, is proud to share the election of Brian Ternan, President and CEO of Health Net, to serve on the Board of Directors for the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA).

The NHMA Board of Directors is comprised of nationally recognized leaders in the field of Hispanic health. The board provides critical oversight and guidance as it works to improve the health of Hispanic communities across the country. Formed in 1994, the NHMA represents the interests of more than 50,000 Hispanic physicians.

"It is an honor to be selected to the NHMA Board of Directors. As our country becomes even more diverse, we believe the lessons on health equity learned in California could be adapted locally in other states," said Ternan. "At Health Net, we've built teams, models and culturally appropriate programs that break down barriers, improve access and reduce health inequities. I will bring that knowledge and expertise to help shape a positive future for Hispanic communities across America."

With over 30 years of leadership experience as a senior health care executive, Ternan has been a key leader at some of the state's largest health care plans. Today, as CEO of Health Net, he leads one of the largest and longest-serving Medi-Cal managed care plans. The company has more than 3 million members and 90,000 network providers.

Health Net and the NHMA are committed to improving access to high quality, culturally and linguistically competent health care. Together, they recognize that every person deserves a safety net for their health, regardless of ethnicity, age, income, or employment status. Over the past decade Health Net has consistently implemented new standards for commercial, Medi-Cal and Medicare providing culturally and linguistically sensitive services to reduce and work on health care disparities.
