More Unhoused in Stanislaus County to Receive Care Thanks to Health Net Grant

Date: 03/20/25

The Modesto Gospel Mission (the Mission) serves some of the most vulnerable people in their community by helping them get off the streets and change their life through different programs and services. To support this work, Health Net granted the Mission more than $300,000. The funds helped expand their services through much needed upgrades to their center, which included:

  • More Staff & Training: Hiring and training more staff will help the Mission give better support and guidance to people working to change their lives.
  • Better Community Supports Services: The Mission can offer more programs and resources, like help finding housing, learning life skills, and getting healthcare.
  • Easier Transportation: Golf carts will help people get to important services, like doctor visits and counseling, especially for those with trouble walking.
  • Improved Facilities: New furniture, laundry carts, and landscaping will make the Mission a cleaner, safer and more welcoming place for those in need.

The Mission's approach to transform the health of the community is much the same as Health Net's, doing so "one person at a time." In fact, a Recuperative Care Manager from the Mission shared a testimonial from one of the individuals who received their services.

"...in November 2024, John came into the to the Recuperative Care program again after being diagnosed with pneumonia [and]...his experience was markedly different—he successfully completed his 30-day stay. This represents the longest period of sobriety John has achieved in many years.

Upon completing his stay in Recuperative Care, John made a pivotal decision to take another positive step in his life...he joined the Mission's "New Life Program". Since joining, John has diligently fulfilled his assigned job duties at the Mission and has attended all required classes. Most significantly, there has been a notable improvement in both his physical and mental well-being. John's commitment to change is evident."

Health Net's support for the Modesto Gospel Mission is helping more people get the care they need to improve their health and lives. With these upgrades, more people like John will have a safe place to heal, learn new skills and build a better future.
