Health Net offers you a choice of customized pregnancy programs that include:
What is a Doula?
A Doula is someone trained to provide extra support throughout your pregnancy, labor, delivery and after childbirth. They can also share non-medical information about pregnancy and the birthing process such as:
- Health education
- Guidance
- How to prepare for childbirth
Doulas are also available after birth to help with:
- Emotional and physical recovery
- Breastfeeding techniques
- New baby care
- Complete wellness healing from a miscarriage, still birth or abortion
The choice is yours
We offer Individual Doula Services or Virtual Doula & Support Services from Mahmee to choose from. This gives you the freedom to think about your options and make the best program choice to fit your lifestyle.
Important: You may either choose an individual Doula or use Virtual Doula & Wrap-around Services by Mahmee, but not both.
Every pregnancy is different. Moderate and High-risk pregnancies require special care to protect you and your baby from adverse health outcomes. That’s where Smart Start for Your Baby® can help.
Care managers work closely with you to manage your healthcare needs. As a rule, they work with moderate or high-risk pregnancies, but any member can ask for help.
Services Offered
The Doula meets with you in-person or online during your pregnancy. They are there to help you during your pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum.
You will receive in-person or virtual doula services.
- A 90-minute first visit
- Up to eight more visits that include pre- and post-birth visits
- Support during labor and birth
- Up to two added visits after birth
Note: You may choose your own Doula or ask us to help you find one.
How to get an individual Doula
Take one of the steps below to learn more about Doula services:
- Call the member services number on the back of your Health Net Member ID card. We will help you find a Doula that meets your needs.
- You can also choose your own Doula by using the ProviderSearch tool on our website.

Note: Doulas do not provide medical advice, medical care or clinical services. They support you to get the most out of your doctor’s visit and care.

Mahmee offers online Doula services with a live person via its app 7 days a week based on your schedule needs. You will receive virtual Doula visits with a live person via the app. Services include:
- Intake visit
- Unlimited prenatal visits
- Support during labor and birth
- Unlimited postpartum visits
The digital platform offers:
- One-on-one visits
- Group chats
- Individual and group classes
- Coaching plus more

Individual Wrap-around maternity services include:
- Registered nurses
- Mental health coaches
- Breastfeeding coaches
- Care coordinators and more
How to get Mahmee services
Take one of the steps below to learn more about Mahmee services.
- Contact Mahmee at 1-818-431-1118.
- Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Pacific time (PT)
- Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PT
- Visit Mahmee online to enroll.
- Select Check Eligibility
- You will be asked to complete a short form
- Once submitted, you will get an email that confirms your eligibility
- Call the member services number on the back of your Health Net Member ID card.
Note: Mahmee does not replace your doctor or other care provider. They support you to get the most out of your doctor’s visit and care.

The Start Smart for Your Baby® program provides you with extra support by care managers who work with you and your doctor to ensure you receive the best care during your pregnancy, after birth and postpartum. They connect you to the right information and resources such as:

- Help to find a doctor

- Where to find healthy foods, cribs, safe housing

How to Enroll in Start Smart for Your Baby
Take one of the steps below to join or learn more about the program.
- Call member services, the number is listed on the back of your Health Net Member ID card.
- Log in to the member portal. Complete the Notification of Pregnancy form and submit. The form is sent electronically to the care management team.
- Fill out our Pregnancy form so we can customize the ways we can help you.

Health Net covers a breast pump and supplies at no cost to members for each pregnancy. Health Net’s preventive care benefits include:
- One breast pump and the supplies needed to operate it
- The type of equipment to use
- Choice to rent or purchase the equipment and more
