Thousands of Low-Income Californians will have Increased Access to Healthcare Thanks to $250,000 Grant from Health Net

Date: 08/17/23

Many California communities are lacking access to mental health care, dental and primary care. According to the Federal Health Resources and Service Administration, the city of Lancaster is one of those areas. That’s why Health Net awarded a $250,000 grant to the Wesley Health Centers to help bridge the gap and increase access to services.

The Lancaster Health and Wellness Center, operated by Wesley Health Centers, is 40,000 square feet of space and tailored to meet the needs of lower income and uninsured adults and children. Thanks to the grant from Health Net, the health center will be able to serve an extra 1,920 patients in year one and up to 6,000 patients in years two and beyond. These services include:

  • Adult and pediatric medical care
  • Diagnostic laboratory testing
  • Comprehensive dental care
  • Optometry and eyeglasses
  • Mental health and substance use disorder treatment
  • HIV/AIDS testing and treatment services
  • Chiropractic care
  • Adult Day Health Care to serve older and disabled adults
  • On-site pharmacy with access to free and low-cost medications

It’s through partnerships with local organizations in the communities we serve, like Wesley Health Centers, that allow Health Net to improve the health of our most vulnerable populations. We believe that no person should have to go without access to the care they need.

Wesley Health Centers hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 10, 2023, to celebrate the expanded center. Dorothy Seleski, Senior Vice President of Plan Product at Health Net, attended the event and spoke about the importance of partnering with local organizations who know the needs of their communities.

Health Net has been actively supporting California residents for more than 40 years. With decades of experience caring for the state’s most vulnerable residents, we will continue to partner with organizations at the state, county and local level to improve the health of the communities we serve.
